Scotland Update 3: Edinburgh & History

Today we got the opportunity to take a train into Edinburgh where Matthew led us through the city and was able to give us some information and history about the different churches and historical sights we got to see. We were able to see one of the churches John Knox (one of the key leaders of the Reformation) pastored in for some time. The church, St. Giles, is also where kings and queens in Scotland would’ve been coronated, and most recently, where Elizabeth II was held in wake.

Seeing some of these sites, including Edinburgh castle, was striking just to know how much history has happened here! Knowing the historical roots of Christianity in this area makes it all the more clear that Scotland today is quite different than it once was, with very few people affirming evangelical Christianity. While we enjoyed adventuring and learning today, we are also excited to continue to minister the rest of the week!
