Meet Our International Ministry Partners
Doug & Karen Fowler – Guatemala
Doug and Karen Fowler currently serve in San Benito, Guatemala, alongside New Covenant World Missions and Hospital Shalom. Their main focus includes serving children and adults with special needs, providing support for their families, and organizing medical clinics in remote, indigenous villages of the Petén region. Karen is the director of the Champions Club, a program specifically designed to help children with autism and other cognitive and physical issues develop physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually using their five senses. She also works one on one with children using “strategic play” to help them develop and strengthen fine and gross motor skills. Doug’s work is focused around the development of medical clinics in rural areas. He also has a passion for helping those in remote villages have sustainable and drinkable/filtered water sources in their homes in order to improve their health and way of life.
Kristopher & Julie Mobbs – Uganda
The Mobbs family lives in Northern Uganda serving the Acholi people and the surrounding tribes of Uganda and South Sudan. After first visiting in 2013, the Mobbs were convinced that the greatest need facing Africa is a lack of Gospel clarity. As full-time missionaries with Four Corners Ministries since 2015, their goal is to communicate and demonstrate the Gospel of Jesus Christ to unreached and under-equipped people groups. Kristopher’s primary role is to lead a team of missionaries and oversee the Pastor Training Center equipping African leaders from over 16 different tribes to plant Gospel-centered, Bible-saturated churches. Julie oversees women’s discipleship and the Women’s Refuge Center giving abandoned women housing, employment, and discipleship.
David & Melissa Smith – Papua New Guinea
David and Melissa Smith, along with their six children, have been serving with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Papua New Guinea since 2014. As members of Wycliffe Bible Translators, their vision is to see everyone have access to God’s Word in the language they best understand, the language that speaks to their heart. They live in Ukarumpa, a center that provides a wide range of infrastructure for the immense task of Bible translation. David is a software developer. He has used his skills to develop literacy apps, teach basic computing, and support the task of Bible translation in a variety of ways. Melissa is a teacher’s aide at the international school in our community.
Nathanael & Kristin Avery – East Africa
Nathanael, Kristin, and their four children are members of Hebron and lead a ministry in East Africa. Choose to Invest exists to empower the church to restore communities. After launching the ministry in 2008, the Avery family moved to East Africa to partner with local churches in rural villages. Leadership development through discipleship was their primary focus. They now invest in more than 100 community leaders, 150 pastors, and a staff of seven through weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual training. They lead trips to serve in their partner communities throughout the year to encourage the good work being done by the church. As local Hebron members, they work to continue empowering the leaders in East Africa by developing new ministry partners and bringing awareness to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of brothers and sisters around the globe. The ministry in East Africa includes three initiatives: strengthening the leaders, building community care teams, and partnering in community development projects.
